About Us
SAVE THE RIVER-SAVE THE HILLS, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) grassroots environmental organization based on the Niantic River Estuary in Connecticut. Our organization is dedicated to preserving the health of the Niantic River Estuary, its Watershed in the towns of East Lyme, Montville, Salem and Waterford, and the natural beauty of the Oswegatchie Hills.
Our programs include:
• Operating a pumpout boat on the Niantic River;
• Water Quality Testing the waters of the River;
• Advocating for the preservation of the Oswegatchie Hills and other forests within the Niantic River Watershed;
• Advocating sewers for East Lyme waterfront neighborhoods;
• Creating and sponsoring an annual Niantic River Appreciation Day with the Kayak Regatta;
• Encouraging the towns of Waterford and East Lyme to fulfill their obligations under the Federal Phase II Storm Water Regulations.
• Working with the Niantic River Watershed Committee on water quality and other projects.
• Watershed Education in our communities

If you're familiar with the efforts to clean up Long Island Sound you know that the well-being of its tidal estuaries is crucial to that undertaking. Today both the Niantic River and the Oswegatchie Hills are facing a major crisis - the threat of development of an 1700+ unit condominium complex right on the Niantic River.
We are working to ensure that the Niantic River becomes and remains as unpolluted as possible and that the Oswegatchie Hills remain unspoiled.
Contributions to Save The River-Save The Hills, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, are tax deductible.
